The Law of Business

Next Month, which is just two days away now!! we launch our SME month where we will provide tips and information relevant to local Micro-, Small and Medium Enterprises in a legalese-free format.

Yesterday we celebrated International Micro-, Small and Medium-sized business Day. The celebrations, themed ‘Big Money for Small Business’ focused on providing those businesses with the tools and resources that they need to grow and expand.

At Titan Chambers, a large part of our practice is dedicated to helping entrepreneurs and their companies/businesses succeed.

Based on observing the clients that we have worked with, here are our top tips* for establishing a successful business:

1. Register your business as a legal entity.

2. Use written contracts/agreements in all business dealings.

3. Inform yourself about all laws and compliance obligations for your specific business type.

4. Review your business plan regularly and adapt as necessary.

5. Keep properly filed and indexed records.

6. Consider and make plans for the legacy of your business.

7. Protect your Intellectual Property.

8. Invest in the services of qualified professionals (Attorneys, Accountants etc.) as suitable.

9. Network, Network, Network.

10. Invest in continuous education and training for yourself and everyone with a key role in your business.

It’s Friyay! The work doesn’t stop just like that though! Earlier this year I challenged myself to attend at least one networking event every month. I’ve been to wayyyy more than twelve networking events for the year and we’re only halfway through, so super yay for smashing goals there!! • The majority of my clients in my legal practice are Entrepreneurs and so yesterday we commemorated International Micro-, Small and Medium Enterprises Day @titanchambers with a post on our top tips for businesses. • I’m a firm believer that you have to grow your network in order to grow your net worth. All these events that I attend won’t mean anything if I wasn’t learning, plus in honour of #FreebieFriday, I wanted to share my top networking tips for you guys and girls. • ✨ Save your details as a contact in your phone. That way it’s easy to forward your information as a contact card to persons that you meet. ✨ Make your business cards distinctive – I only keep cards that stand out. 🙈 ✨ When you collect cards, write where you met the person and what you spoke about on the back of the card. This helps for future referencing. ✨ Where possible, contact interesting leads immediately (within 24 hours of first contact) to further discuss opportunities for collaboration etc. • • If there are any tips that work for you I’d be happy to hear them ⬇️ • #trinidadentrepreneurs #trinidadbusiness #networking #networkingqueen #potential #increaseyournetwork #increaseyournetworth #lawandbusiness #lawyerbae #instalawyer #monpreneur #rep868 #girlboss #thoughtleader #businessbae #lawyerbae #attorneysofinstagram #MSMEDay2019 #boasty
